Chestnut-backed Chickadee: Small, energetic chickadee with chestnut-brown back, rump and flanks, and white breast and belly. Barlowi subspecies has gray flanks. Cap and throat are black; cheek patch is white. Wings and tail are dark. Legs and feet are gray-black. Song not whistled like other chickadees, more like a sparrow chipping.

Calliope Hummingbird: Very small hummingbird, metallic green upperparts and flanks, white underparts. Throat feathers are long, purple-red, appearing as streaks on a white background, whiskers when fluffed out, or dark, inverted V when folded. Direct and hovering flight with very rapid wing beats.

Costa's Hummingbird: Medium hummingbird with green back, pale gray underparts and dull green flanks. Crown and throat patch are brilliant metallic purple. Straight black bill. Tail is green with black outer tail feathers. Legs and feet are black. Feeds on nectar, spiders, sap and insects. Direct and hovering flight with very rapid wing beats.

Cape May Warbler: Small warbler, olive-yellow upperparts, thick, black streaks on yellow underparts. Bright yellow face, chestnut-brown ear patch, black crown. Wings are dark with large white patches. First collected in Cape May, New Jersey in 1811 and not seen again in that area for over 100 years.

Cerulean Warbler: The male is sky-blue with faintly streaked upperparts and black-streaked white flanks. A black band separates a white throat and belly. Wings have two bold white bars. The female has unstreaked blue-gray upperparts and a yellow wash on face and breast with pale streaks on flanks, and yellow eyebrows. The immature bird is paler and more olive over all. Prefers to stay high in the crowns of mature deciduous trees, making it difficult to see.

Carolina Chickadee: Small chickadee with gray upperparts, distinct black cap and bib, dull white cheeks, and white underparts with rust-brown flanks. Short, black bill. When disturbed in its nest during incubation, it will hiss and strike intruders, similar to how a snake would act.

California Gnatcatcher: Medium-sized gnatcatcher with a black cap, dark blue-gray upperparts, black tail, and paler gray, buff-washed underparts. Bill is short, slender, and black. Tail is black with white edges, with undertail appearing all-black when closed. Legs and feet are black.

Crescent-chested Warbler: Small warbler, gray to blue-gray head, wings, tail. Yellow-green back, breast, throat are yellow with a rufous-brown spot or crescent on upper breast; belly and sides are white to gray. Head has white eyebrows that widen towards nape and partial lower eye-ring.

White-collared Seedeater: Small finch with short, thick, curved bill, yellow-gray overall with black head, wings, and round tail; the back is gray. Wings show two white bars. Eats seeds and insects. Weak fluttering flight, alternates rapid wing beats with brief periods of wings pulled to the sides.

Cinnamon Hummingbird: Medium size, bicolored hummingbird with bronze green upperparts and cinnamon colored underparts. The tail is square, rufous with gold-green edging. This promiscuous bird attracts a female by flying back and forth like a swing. Both sexes are protective of feeding territories.

Common Waxbill: This small finch is mostly brown-gray with red on the belly and a line through the eye. The bill is red-orange, the legs and feet are black, and it has faint barring on the upperparts and flanks. The wings are short and the tail is medium in length. The female is similar, but lacks red on the belly and has a black bill. It feeds mainly on grass seeds. The flight is undulating.

Chestnut Munia: This is a small, mostly uniform chestnut colored estrildid finch with a black head and upper breast. It has a large conical bill and blue-gray legs and feet. It feeds mainly on seeds, usually in relatively open habitats, preferring to feed on the ground. It has an undulating flight. The sexes are similar.

Citrine White-eye: Small, warbler-like bird, olive above, yellow below. Orange-brown eye with black line through eye and white spectacles. Sharp, slightly curved bill black above, orange below. Small to medium wings with black-gray on primaries and tertials. Short to medium tail has rounded tip. Sexes similar, juvenile like adult but duller.

Chestnut Munia (Palau): Small red-brown finch with black hood and breast, and blue-gray eyering. Some birds also show black on the belly and vent. Strong, conical blue-gray bill. Slightly pointed, longish red-brown tail. Sexes similar. Juvenile is gray-brown with black bill.
