Mississippi Kite: Small kite, dark gray upperparts, pale gray underparts and head. Eyes are red. Upperwings are dark gray with pale gray patches. Tail is long and black. Feeds on large flying insects. Bouyant flight with steady wing beats, alternates several wing strokes with short to long glides.

Maui Alauahio: This small songbird has a mostly yellow head and underparts and an olive crown and upperparts. It has olive-gray edging to the feathers in the wing and tail. Medium length, sharp, fine gray-black bill, with buff lower mandible; medium length wings and notched tail. Female is similar in pattern, but all colors are muted. Feeds on a variety of arthropods. Direct, undulating flight.

Maui Parrotbill: This small to medium-sized songbird has a heavy curved upper mandible, white-pink lower mandible, yellow underparts and eyebrow, olive upperparts, medium-length wings and a short notched tail. Female is duller with a much smaller bill. Feeds mainly on the larvae and pupae of moths and on wood and fruit boring beetles. Direct, undulating flight with rapid wing beats.

Micronesian Starling: Small, glossy purple-black starling with hint of black streaks on neck, black lores and black around white-yellow eye. Fairly broad, medium-length wings. Medium tail. Medium gray-black legs and feet. Female is slightly smaller and duller than the male. Juvenile is gray-brown above, buff below with gray-brown streaks.
