Please help me identify bright beaked bird

Using the Percevia search engine I narrowed it to these 10 birds. David sadi in one of his comments that the Cardinal does not always show its crest. And so maybe your seeing a Red Cardinal with a unusally beak color. Also the Red Cardinal female is not all red, their plumage varies.
Could also be a Tanager. We'll have to wait for David to say for sure what you are seeing but it sure sounds unusual visitor. Be nice if you could snap a photo of it and upload it.

As far as I know there is no way to get around the fluorescent orange bill you describe -- this is a Northern Cardinal. The browns, blacks, and rust colors and the lack of a crest seem to be part of the different forms that cardinals take, but they all have that bill! Hopefully, you can see your bird perched next to a typical cardinal and see if there is any similarity.

Thank you very much David and Simone. I guess it was just so hard to believe it really was a cardinal because it looked SO different from other cardinals I have seen. This one definately was unique. Thanks again.
