The book was reviewed in our local paper.

Although the review  was generally favorable, the reviewer was put off by the condescending, somewhat nasty attitude of the protagonists towards many of the people they met: "yokels", "hillbillies" etc

Not exactly the way that most bireders would act towards those people who are are kind enough to let us wander freely on their property will we hunt for birds
