Most here keep a list of the birds they see guess there must be many ways folks do this Hand written Note book Journal  a spread sheet data base etc. A few years ago I found a very small stand alone data base called Bird Watcher Professional designed by Robert.W.Benjamin Here is a screen shot of the program as you get it It and as I have modified it as my database It costs some where around $15

Yeah, I use a notebook when out, but enter everything into eBird.org afterwards for tracking.  Great thing about eBird is I feel like I benefit from other people's sightings.  The maps and graphs not only show me where particular species are usually found, but their relative abundance throughout the migration cycles.  Helps me plan ahead.

Tell us some of the things you like about Bird Watcher Professional: what kind of data sorting can you do?  Any bulk import features (ex. from excel spreadsheet)?

It is a quick and easy stand alone database you can export the data and and import that data. It sticks to the basics name of bird where seen date seen notes about the sighting How many where seen sexes how common or rare they are and on page 2 you can add any photographs of the bird you have taken. It is simple easy

I also use paper when in the Field and then enter it into Ebird at first opportunity.  Your database also looks pretty neat and I like the way that you can add pictures to the entry.
