I'm just beginning to discover iBird. I see there are many here who want features added. I think iBird is the app that could take over the iPhone, or at least, be an influence on future design.

My want is for the iPhone to record bird songs in the field.

How about a zoom telephoto lens attachment? I can get shots by holding my iPhone up to my binoculars in a pinch. Fuzzy but it works.

I'm sure there's no end to what we want. Some of it would need hardware features added.

I don't always have my camera, but I do always have my iPhone with me. Upgraded camera features would be nice.

It looks like the new iPhone has recording capabilities, 3mp camera, video and a lot more. Looks like things are coming right along for iPhone and iBird.

What a team.

Many great suggestions here and all good. To record songs in the field the iPhone will need a parabolic microphone and amplifier attachment, with dual mics for noise canceling. I'd like to see such a product as I think it would sell very well even though it wont be cheap.

Telephoto lense attachment? I think a better approach is to build a camera which the iPhone plugs into so the results of the shot are stored in its memory and uploaded to youtube instantly. How cool would that be. Nikon, Sony are you listening?

The upgraded 3mpx camera is fantastic for a phone camera, and video capture is excellent. All of that with good sound quality. I have been capturing bird sounds which are good enough to identify the bird just using the phone as is in a quiet setting early morning hours.

These are still the beginning days for what the iPhone has become with the new 3G S, developers are scrambling to put together new bluetooth accessories which will be focused on gaming most likely, but with some that will be knocking our socks off for practical uses too. I'm keeping a close eye on the possibilities and the innovations where the iPhone can be utilized in my daily life right now.

The camera is so good, and seems to have an electronic focusing mechanism that allowed me to take 'spy shots' of my old iPhone notes for later review on my computer screen where I had to re-enter all of my notes by hand (not fun, but the new camera made short work of getting the old note contents, screen by screen.)

Things are moving in the right direction. I've found a 2x and also this 6x telephoto lens for the iPhone. Get the price. You can't go wrong for under $20.00.

Remember, this is not for professional photography, it's just that I always have the 3G iPhone with me but I do not always carry my camera and equipment with me.

The result would be to have a photo of a bird you want to identify or catalog.
