We spend quite a bit of time in Cancun as well as on the Pacific side of Mexico and would LOVE an app to supplement our IBird Pro.  I cannot tell you how happy my husband will be to save packing space as I am forever hauling 3 big books with us whenever we go to Mexico.  BTW, I mentioned this in the forum, but your app has hooked my sons on birding in a way I just wasn't able to do.  They are looking forward to the lifetime list (notes) update.  They LOVE looking up the birds I am constantly pointing out.  THIS is their iphone game- and we have a family game of trying to "guess" the bird call.

Off topic- I am also into entomology.  What are the chances of getting you to develop a bug id app?  Sure would LOVE that!  Thanks for your time.

Just wondering if any consideration is being given to an IBird Mexico? The N. American field guide only identifies a portion of birds in Mexico. Is there somewhere else I should post this request?  Would also really LOVE to see an IBug for those with an interest in Entomology.  Thanks

A second vote for a Mexican edition -- or simply an extension of the North American version.  I know that most (all?) field guides seem to restrict "North America" to Canada and the US, but that's geographically just weird.  And given the biodiversity down here, it makes sense to document it, if only to convince more birders to make the trip.

This could be done gradually, as additions to the current iBird.  Any plans to do something like this?

I would love to add birds of Mexico but....there is no way to cost justify it. The illustrations would cost thousands of dollars and the app would sell in very tiny quantities.

Its a good idea and the only way I can see us doing it is if someone who has a book out now or has a ton of good photos approached me....

Insects is another one of those great ideas with too small a market to justify. Unless you already have all the contents.

Well, Mexico has the distinction of having probably the most rigorous national bird guide in the world:  I don't think anything else out there measure up to the Howell and Webb.  I wonder if Steve Howell or Sophie Webb would be interested in some sort of collaboration?  Or simply in porting the work over to iBird?  (The amount of work and money that went into that tome suggests that there's *some* market for this.)

Most likely they sold all the rights to the work to the publisher. And they will be afraid that an app will hurt book sales. Its an issue that all print publishers are facing.
