We have a pair of Phainopepla in Tujunga,Ca. (north & west of Los Angeles)

They don't seem to be spooked by humans & feed from our feeder.

I think they have a nest in an oak tree just east of our home.

Has anyone watched these birds feed young? I saw a female bring in food to almost fledgled young a few weeks ago in a nest I've found in California. I was really impressed by the fact that I saw her regurgitate 7 whole berries (8 if you included the one she had in her mouth when she flew in) and feed them to the two young. I was wondering if anyone has made any other observations because I thought 7 whole berries was a lot to carry for a bird her size.
