Nice. Those buggers are so hard to photograph... And you can't realize how small they are until you're watching these little cotton balls bop around a bush.

Nice. :) I saw some today, but I did not have my camera. I suppose they're flocking in preparation for the winter.

I agree about them being hard to photograph but here's a great tip -- if you do the phishing sound they REALLY respond and will come closer - they go nuts over this sound probably because it sounds a bit like their sound!

Here's the best shot I was able to get of one - probably after I did the phishing sound!

Wow, nice picture. Your Bushtit looks so well-groomed. My clearest pic of a single Bushtit has a very ragged subject.

Oh, and thanks for the advice. I just remembered that the first time I tried pishing, it was a Bushtit that came to look at me.

I have to confess that I didn't know what I was taking a picture of this afternoon!  But I was sneaking around the bushes looking at these little guys jump from place to place when all of a sudden a great blue heron started to squak about 25 feet higher in the same tree.  I almost had a heart attack!

Herons and Egrets in trees are so funny -- their huge toes don't even fit around the branch... It's also interesting that the Bushtits and GBH were in the same tree. You would think that they would avoid each other (like humans with other animals), but birds really don't care about proximity with other species. It's their own species that counts. :)
