I just read a newspaper article about the US Geological Survey North American Bird Phenology Program located here:
This is a project to create a database from thousands of index cards mailed in by volunteers from the 1880s to the 1970s. At this website, anyone can volunteer to transcribe data from handwritten index cards that have been scanned in. You can watch a short training video that shows how to read the cards and type the information into the template. I transcribed several cards this evening.
