I just bought an ipad have decided to install ibird but I'm confused by the differences between PRO HD and Explorer PRO products.  The ibird linked product comparisons only detail Explorer PRO.  thnx

Welcome to Whatbird.  I will direct your question to the Technical Department.

Here is a great article written by Mitch that outlines the differences.

On the compare list, it says Ibird HD does not run on Iphone. However, at the app store, it says it's for both Ipad and Iphone. Which is correct? I just bought an Iphone and plan on buying the new Ipad3 in a few weeks. I don't want to have to purchase 2 different versions of Ibird but I want all the functions the Ibird HD has.
Also, once you've purchased Ibird, do you need 3g or 4g to use it in the field or is everything stored on your Ipad and ready for use? I'm trying to decide if I really need the Ipad with 4g, and the Ibird app will be used the most on both my Ipad & Iphone.

Bluebirdlover:

Any information about iBird products can be found at

http://ibird.com/

Specifically to answer the question "what ibird version is right for me" you can use this table:

http://ibird.com/com...e-ibird-version/

Regarding your comment:

"On the compare list, it says Ibird HD does not run on Iphone. However, at the app store, it says it's for both Ipad and Iphone."

Can you tell me specifically at the app store where you see it says that iBird HD is for both the ipad and the iphone? The compare list is correct, iBird HD is designed as a native iPad app.

You do NOT need any internet connection to use iBird in the field for iPhone or iPad. The database is stored on the device. There is one extra feature that does use the web called Birdipedia and Flickr but those are not necessary to use iBird they just are supplements. So 3G vs 4G is not an issue.

Thanks

Of course I can't find where I was reading that. I may have misread though. I guess I just want the pro version that will work both on an iphone & ipad.

Yes iBird Pro will work on both iPhone and iPad because its a universal app. Also Pro compared to the other apps, as the table shows, has more search features.

I ended up downloading the Ibird Pro to my Iphone and I just got my Ipad and loaded it on to it. It seems to look real good. Not sure if the HD would be any better. I"ll have to play with this version for awhile to make my decision.

the "what ibird version is right for me" only talk about PRO HD, not exploer pro.
both app can run at ipad, both include 924 SPECIES, Explorer PRO has slightly biger at 591MB vs 541MB
and both are the same price now.
so can anybody exactly tell me what different about this two app?

iBIrd PRO HD takes advantage of the larger screen size and higher resolution of the iPad.
For instance you can compare up to 4 different birds at once, which is really useful when you are trying to identify a bird.
Also the larger screen size lets you have more information up at once. On the main page for each bird, you see the image, description, range map, and habitat information all at once. With iBird Explorer PRO that information would be on two diffeent screens.
My favorite thing about PRO HD is the Smart Search feature, which eliminates attributes that would return 0 results. For instance, if I select Location: CT, Color Primary: Red, and if I go to Shape next, only Perching-like and Tree-clinging-like are available as choices, the rest are grayed out. There is a column right on that screen showing icons of the 7 possible choices.
Try going to the iBird PRO HD page http://ibird.com/products/ipad/pro-hd/ and clicking view screenshots.
If you just have an iPad, PRO HD may be the best choice, but if you have both an iPhone and iPad, you could sticl with Explorer PRO and put the app on both devices.
Hope that helps!
