Can someone tell me if any iBird for iPad version has a feature that will "listen" to a bird call and make suggestions as to what bird it is? If not, is there an app that has this feature?

Thanks!

Welcome to Whatbird... I'm not aware of anything in IBird that listens to calls and gives you an answer.  That would be a level of programming very sophisticated and require a lot of CPU and extensive memory.   Maybe there is some other Ap but I don't know of it. (Not saying that I am all that current in Aps)

Good luck in you search and if you find it please post the information here.

I believe there are labs which are working on such a solution, but Fraser is right, its very difficult. There is a post somewhere in this forum that discusses the idea.

This is what I've been asking. I've contacted SoundHound and floated the idea by them, using Cornell's database(?). It can be done, but the information would not be on the iPhone oriPad, but on their server. Not a great option, I live far out from the nearest Verizon tower and have to use a booster so I can use my cell in the house. Ok, maybe not such a great idea after all then...?

The discussion was under iBird for iPhone IThink. That's what I'm looking for and started a post on it.

Oops3,

Unv. of Wisconsin has been working on an app to do exactly what you are asking. It is called WeBIRD. They did press releases in October 2011 and indicated a release date of spring 2012, but it has not been released yet. It does send the data to a remote server, as SoundHound indicated to you. You can Google it and get a lot of information.

OK, correct me if I'm wrong or old fashioned, but isn't it part of birding to be able to research and identify songs? Using a device to listen to and identify a song would take the fun out of it for me.
