It's a Downy if it's little.  There are Hairy's that look just like them that are bigger.  Sounds like a great day for sure!

Looks good for a male Downy Woodpecker to me, but would you have another angle? I can't really confirm bill length from this shot.

My first thought is hairy woodpecker, but you should get a second opinion.

 oops --- meant the smaller one (Downy) these guys confuse me

Downy woodpecker.  If it were bigger it would be a Hairy woodpecker.
