Ruby-Throated Hummingbird

I was taking photos of Ruby-Throated Hummingbirds at & around our feeders at our cottage in Haliburton, Ontario, Canada.

This male had just finished feeding, flew directly to this perch. I took 3 or 4 photos of him. It wasn't until I loaded the pictures into my computer and had a closer look that I realized that I had caught him with his tongue extended. My guess is that he was cleaning up. I thought the photo unusual enough that I decided to post it here for others to enjoy.

I've never seen a hummer with his tongue out. That's a neat lucky shot!

Great unusual shot. Once got a short video of a hummer flicking tongue but never a still picture.
