A winter time feeding frenzy has been taking place around the corner from my house. This morning well over 100 American Robins and at least 50 waxwings were once again feeding heavily on some roadside berries. Great to see so many of these birds in January in Southern Ontario.

That's outstanding, Jeff!  That's _exactly_ the kind of opportunity I'd like to find!

The cedar waxwings are quite abundant in my yard, and I've had flocks of robins visiting on and off all winter long. For me, they both pale in comparison to the rarer bohemian waxwings I had visiting last year.

They didn't seem to care what colour their food was.

Nice pictures everyone.

It is funny you mentioned these two birds, because I was just out in my yard and noticed a huge increase in numbers of these two birds specifically.  Probably at least 50 of each in the yard.  Here are a couple pictures from today.

Can I ask what the red berries are - in the earlier photos? I'm getting ready to re-plant my back yard and would love to use some things that will attract Waxwings.

I seriously want to see the Cedar Waxwings, they are so freaking cool looking, where near So Cal can I find them and what time of year?

Starting a NEW gallery of my better bird shots. Not happy with Flickrs over-busy re-design.

I had the exact same thing happen last year. My neighbors have a holly bush that overhangs my driveway. In January a bunch of Robins stopped by for a feast, dropping lots of berries on the ground as they ate. They would get them in their bill and then toss them down with a flip of the head but sometimes they lost them, so the ground under the bush was red with berries. Then in May a flock of Cedar Waxwings discovered the remaining berries and cleaned them out. I don't think there was a single edible berry left after that. It was really nice to have such great photo ops without having to leave my property! Usually I go in search of birds, this time they came to me, sweet.
