Caught a couple of pictures of this bird in a tree and at my feeders during a rainstorm this past September. Stayed until the weather cleared then was gone.

I have the ID as a female Rose-breasted Grosbeak. Is this correct?

That bird looks a lot like what I always thought was a Black-headed Grosbeak.  This shot was taken in Baja Sur.

The best way to tell in this plumage is mandible color. BigOly, note how your Black-headed Grosbeak has a dark upper mandible and pale lower mandible, while the OP's are both the same color.

Kryptos, Besides being out-of-range, for me these females are still hard to tell apart.  That being said, a fellow birder who knows his stuff reported  sighting a male Rose-breasted Grosbeak here(Baja Sur) last week.  He didn't get a photo but I'm gonna go look when this wind dies down. Thanks Again

Agree with Kryptos....I've seen TONS of variations here.... especially among youngsters.  Especially in September.
