I was watching a yellow-bellied woodpecker outside my kitchen window the other day (s.e. tennessee), when I noticed a busy little bird flying from tree to tree further back in my yard. It finally made it's way to the tree the woodpecker had been in, and landed on a branch. Flitting in the air it ate (drank?) from one of the woodpecker's holes in the tree, then landed, then jumped back up, and suspended for a moment, partaking again. It was small (sparrow sized, perhaps a bit smaller), a solid gray-olive color except for 2 black and white wing bars. It may have been lighter underneath. Any ideas?
Vireo? Description only...

I've seen Ruby-crowned Kinglets do this, and they sure like to hover too.
