Upgraded photo (for me!) of a Western Meadowlark. Taken yesterday at Payen Road. Didn't see a Burrowing Owl, but did see a Barn Owl (posted photo in the Share our Owls thread).

Nice shot. If they are anything like the Easterns, the can be difficult to approach.

Thanks for the compliments. He actually did seem to be posing, looking first one way and then the other. Wasn't skittish at all.....didn't seem to mind us being there. We were in the car, probably couldn't have gotten that close on foot.

Jodie, I bet you do remember that fence!! Smile What was funny was as we were driving slowly along Payen Road, we met an older man (about my age! Tongue Tied ) who was out for his afternoon walk. We stopped and I asked him if he had seen a Burrowing Owl...that we were looking for one that had been seen recently in that area. He said no, that as far as he knew there weren't any around there at all. I explained that photos had been taken of one near the Aero-Drome, and that others had also been seen . He looked puzzled and said that he had been walking that road for forty years and had never seen a Burrowing Owl in his life!! Goes to show you that we never know what we have missed seeing just because we didn't know it was there, and therefore had not been looking for it!!
