Not a very good pic, but it's a male Northern Shoveller. This small pond was totally empty last week.

We've lost most of our ducks. A few Redheads and of course American Coots still in the local pond.

Even most of the coots leave here. I found a few nesting on a pond in the mountains last Spring.

My spring Robins arrived last week, and got my first 2 common grackles this week. Also got a new yard bird yesterday, pretty surprised to get Common Raven. Never ever seen one before in my part of town, but they are all over toward the foothills and mountains, and also south of here. They had some massive wildfires (an apparent "oops" of prescribed gov't burn that got out of control) down southwest of me, Jefferson County Colorado. I'm almost positive the Raven flyover had something to do with this big fire

Hopefully your Ravens won't stay, Tom. They wipe out some of the other birds around them here.

We haven't started getting our inbound here yet. Some outbound activity, but I notice my White-crowned seem to be staying through their molt. I have some photos to go through, but I know I have some fairly interesting half-immature-half-mature White-crowned Sparrow now, which from an ID perspective is pretty cool! :)

We have Chihuahuan/Whitenecked Ravens here. Have seen crows mobbing them.

Couple of years ago, there was a massive die-off of Shovellers in Denver Parks. No cause reported.

We have robins all year.

Right after the Hayman burn, I had Blue Jays, Scrub Jays (both resident here) and Stellar's Jays came down here for food.

Here's a Song Sparrow. Usually the buggers think they see a camera, and they're off!

Tree Swallows made it to NJ, in full force, about 2 weeks ago. The Meadowlarks are year round in both NJ and MD... though a bit harder to find in winter. The latest spring arrival for me are, Barn Swallow and Purple Martins.

Life list: 355
Latest: Olive-sided Flycatcher(Finally), Mississippi Kite, Wilson's Plover, Lark Sparrow, Elegant Tern, Northern Lapwing

Yeah, we have meadowlarks year-round, but I just heard them sing this week. One year, after a snowstorm, my husband called me from the barn, and said there were some black and yellow birds that he had never seen sitting on the fence. I got all excited and ran down there, thinking they were evening grosbeaks. They were just a group of meadowlarks, huddled together. He had never seen them from the front, he'd just seen them flying away in front of him!
