While walking along the shores of the beach in the Dominican Republic at night, I saw what a heron with black on its head, a thick longish beak, yellow legs, a darkish body, and a long neck. I'm leaning towards Yellow-crowned Night-heron because of the long neck, but it was so dark that I couldn't see markings very well. Any ideas?

Your field marks do seem to indicate Yellow-crowned, as opposed to Black-crowned. Thick bill and dark body, namely.
