I know that flycatchers are usually solitary, but a big flock of Cassin's Kingbirds has been hanging out in the trees outside my new office (So CA) for about 3-4 days now. They make a lot of noise and fly around, sometimes in pairs kind of "chasing" one another.
I didn't think flycatchers hung out in a big flock like that - what would be the reason? Are they possibly stopping here for a few days in migration route back home??

Sure they're not Westerns? Westerns tend to tolerate others of their kind better, at least for a few more weeks. Once nesting starts, they won't be so friendly.

Thanks Creeker, I suppose that's possible but I am mainly going by the sound they make. However, listening to Western Kingbird sound, it does sound similar. I will have to get some pictures of them to make sure.

Okay here is a picture of one of them - I think you are right Creeker; this looks different than a Cassin's - and I believe white border on sides of tail also means Western. What do you all think?
