I can still hear this guy's song through my window. Louisiana Waterthrush?

Here's a video of his song, he was the loudest thing in the woods! http://s1165.photobu...nt=109_4761.mp4

I agree with Blue-headed Vireo for bird #2, but bird #1 is no waterthrush... waterthrushes are rarely seen perched in trees like this, and notice how the markings on the chest are speckled, not streaked. This is definitely a thrush, most likely a Hermit, but I don't know if I can be 100% sure on which one it is from this shot.

It was a waterthrush, because it was bobbing up and down in the tree. Did you listen to the song? it matched the waterthrush.

I see the supercilium, and the song is definitely a Louisiana Waterthrush. I have seen them in trees occasionally, although it isn't exactly typical.

When the northern waterthrush return here they are often in the trees. Is that a behavioural difference with the Louisana then?

I haven't seen very many Northern Waterthrushes, but the few I have seen, and I would say 95% of the LA Waterthrushes I see (and they are one of the more common breeding warblers here) are on or near the ground, rarely above chest height.

I have seen LA waterthrush only 3 times, and no Northerns, but all were in trees well above head height for me. All were during "set up territory" time of year.

Pretty sure this is a Northern Waterthrush, seen in upstate NY on 7/15/11, about 8' - 10' up in a tree. Only other time seeing them was on the ground along water.

Like David, I was referring to first thing in the spring before the leaves come out. After that I see and hear them primarily on or near the ground.

Only waterthrush I've ever seen was one this past January, he was about 6-7 feet up in a tree. Believe it's a Louisiana. (Picture level with him because I was up on a deck.) :)
