While looking through my photos from last year at the San Diego Zoo, I found this bird and was wondering what it was. Is it an Anhinga?

Thanks!! It was at one of the ponds where the birds are free to come and go, but they are feed and taken care of so why would they want to leave?

You may be aware but in case... an Anhinga at the San Diego zoo would not be a wild bird. That's pretty far out of range for them.
Life List: 362
Most recent 5: Pacific Loon, Cave Swallow, Hudsonian Godwit, Leach's Storm-Petrel, Pomarine Jaeger.

Not an Anhinga at all, but in the same genus I believe. Looks more like an African Darter, which I remember seeing at the San Diego Zoo last time I was there.
Total birds seen: 370
Latest Lifers:
Lark Sparrow, Roseate Spoonbill, Painted Bunting

Oh, shoot. Now that I've already made a fool of myself, I'd agree with this - this bird has a white malar stripe, a black bill, and a dark brown/red head and neck that don't show up on Anhingas.

Once again, my inner idiot has surfaced. Thanks for correcting, Kryptos.
