Most of the juncos that I see in my yard are the Oregon variety. Is this a Slate-colored? Male or female? Seen today in Olympia, WAPosted Image

Yep, male dark-eyed junco, slate colored variety. That pink bill and uniform dark gray uppers are the giveaway.

Thanks. That is the only Slate-colored I have seen here. The juncos vary so much in color. This is a female Oregon variety, I think. She is very light-colored.Posted Image

We only get slate-colored around here so I don't have much experience with oregon & pink-sided, but what makes the one from Donnjean an oregon over pink-sided? I have a couple pics from out west I'm trying to figure out.
