About a week ago I was in southern Arizona and photographed one too many sparrows. My goal here is to get a passing grade, so let's see how well I can do. The numbers used are the consecutive photo #s. Would really appreciate if you could refer to the # when telling me my ID id off. Here is the list of what I will be posting:

079 Rufous Crowned
131 Brewer's
143 Chipping
262 White-crowned
379 Lincoln's
527 Lincoln's
569 Lark
583 Brewer's
597 Savanah
605 Vesper
618 Vesper
632 Vesper
637 Savanah
644 Savanah
673 Vesper

079 is correct, but 131 is a Chipping Sparrow. It's especially difficult to see it here, but you may be able to discern the contrast between the gray cheek, dark eyeline, whitish eyebrow, and rusty cap.

EDIT: 143 and 262 are both Chipping. Among other things, the back of 262 is pale rusty brown with black stripes whereas on a typical White-crowned, the back will be pale grayish with dark rusty red stripes.

637 is a Song Sparrow (darker, thicker streaking; darker, thicker bill; longer tail; grayer base color on face), but 644 and 673 are correct.

Matty why not clay for 583, it has large bill and gray nape, I see its missing the strong facial markings along with the buff color, also the crown strip say B.S. not CCS. I too agree with BS. over CCS,Just wondering about the 1st two things I mentioned.

Hmm, bill size and nape color don't look out of line to me for Brewer's, so I guess I can't really comment much. Besides the very plain face that this Brewer's has, Clay-colored is not in range.

Are you sure 644 isn't a Song?

Pretty positive it's a Savannah, just a very dark one. Notice the little pink bill.
