I used to die looking for them! I finally got one in florida last month. I have never seen one in Georgia, though. try Ebird. I live in Blairsville, probably not far from you!

I see them all the time in the Augusta area. In Hephzibah there are so many of them along Brown Rd and 25. Any semi-open area with telephone wires seems to have them. I found a nesting pair on McElmurray Road. At Phinizy Swamp Nature Park, they hang out along Lock & Dam road, just before the park entrance.

Wherever they are, so are the American Kestrels.

I'll have to drive down there and check out those areas after we get back in town. I'd like to see a Kestrel, too. That one isn't on my list.

I suggest it. I've seen lots of Meadowlarks in that area as well.

Loggerhead Shrike seen a few days ago at Nash Farms. See attached pdf from e-Bird.

It is about 1.3 hour drive from my home to Nash Farm. I believe Newman Wetlands is close too.

John and I will be going there on Monday morning

Just an aside:

I love hearing about people chasing birds. Even if you don't get the bird, you got an adventure. For me - that's really what life is all about. I've had trouble chasing down the quote, but I remember reading it decades ago, and it sticks with me that it was Henry David Thoreau, although I could be misattributing, that said [paraphrase I'm sure]:

"We all live the same amount of time. From the time we're born, until the time we die. Only the experiences differ."

Thank you all for sharing your experiences!

I've seen them in my yard for the past 3 days. I think they're very striking. I just added a pic to my gallery. I also just found out it's called the butcher bird and why.

That makes sense! My Bushtits have masks too, and the face seems similar to me. But I haven't seen a LOSH yet...
