I saw my first whooping cranes at Yellowstone. We went there about 15 years ago, and stopped in a ranger station to find out if there were any vacancies at our favorite campground. The ranger looked in his book and kind of mumbled "Oh yeah, that's where the whooping cranes are." WHAT!!!! Whooping cranes?? He said that this pair had ended up stopping in a roadside ditch in Colorado, and they were worried that they would try to nest there. They moved them to Yellowstone, and put radio transmitters on them. They were hanging out in the ponds along the campground road the whole time we were there, and we got some great pics.

I finally went to Aransas a few years ago, and saw them wintering there. Pretty cool birds!
