My dad and I were walking in the park next to our house and my dad, not being a birder, yells out "Hey Melissa! Look at this baby duck I found!!" I ran over and told him that it was a Pied-billed Grebe, not a duck, and that it was too early for baby ducks. We both snuck up on it, about 5-10 feet away, and started snapping off pictures like there was no tomorrow .
The grebe kept trying to dive down and further up the small stream-like pond, and we would get pics of him coming back up all wet. He was really cute!!

That is such a great story! You got lucky being able to get so close. I've only gotten close once; down in California. All the rest of them I've seen have been like 75 ft and then the dive down swim underwater and then they are even farther away!! Sometimes I just can't win and get a good picture!

Well they are usually in small stream- like ponds and that sounds like something that my Dad would say to me!
