How common are the Cassin's. I was at a friends house yesterday and a sparrow was taking a bird bath and it was so fun to watch. Especially when he would flitter over to get just his feet wet. What I noted about him/her was that the chest and underparts were gray and all and all the upperparts were muted browns and grays. I'm not adding it to my life until I get a picture, but I would think if the Cassin's is pretty common, I could consider it a possiblity.
Thanks in advance.
Sorry, Im in SW Oklahoma, Ft Sill area

Sorry, but I don't remember your location. That would have bearing on the likeliness of your sighting.

I have been in Cassin's habitat and locations and even heard the song, but never seen one. They are generally pretty secretive and difficult to get a look at, as well as fairly specific in habitat, and I think it would be highly irregular to have one at a bird bath. It was probably more likely you had a drab Field or Chipping Sparrow. But with these crazy birds, anything is possible.

Thanks Matty, My luck, it's probably a finch. I watched this little guy for about 5 minute, and tried to look for field marks. I didn't see any white eyebrows on him and thats why I ruled out the Chipping. The Field is closer, but I didn't notice the rufous but seems there may have been a cap of some sort. Visions fade unfortunately
