Is it flying? If so I think it is a Glossy Ibis.

Glossy Ibis is out of range. I'd say White-faced Ibis is much more likely in Iowa.

glossys have are accidental in this area. Sibley's places this in the range. Besides that, aren't ranges kind of in disarray this year? the red eye makes me think glossy. ..but it is kinda hard to argue with Kryptos, since he has 7715 posts...any one else?Glossy Ibis is out of range. I'd say White-faced Ibis is much more likely in Iowa.

I agree with White-faced. (They are the ones with red eyes; Glossys always have dark eyes.) And while range maps are not 100% accurate, starting with the in-range bird and checking evidence to the contrary is still a much better idea than doing it the other way around...

So what is the difference between the White-faced and the glossy. I looked in my Selbys and both seems to have the white on the face. Are there field marks other than the face to go by?
