Pic taken today in So Calif 4/17/12. I looked at their range and it doesn't seem to extend out to my neck of the woods.

Was just wondering what he is doing in So Cal......I have never seen this bird before in the wild.....until today. Thanks for the ID.

Interesting, I had not heard of Cardinals in the area before. There have been several sightings in the general area according to eBird, generally in the Whittier Narrows, Bosque Del Rio Hondo, and Legg Lake areas.

We get them here in San Diego. I think we've even had breeding pairs. The origin has been attributed to them being cage birds in Mexico that have escaped and flown North, which makes them illegal immigrants. :ph34r: Maybe yours just kept on going.

I grew up in your area (b. in Alhambra, grew up in Whittier) and I never saw a No. Cardinal there. How fun!

Although, we did see some other mockingbirds that were much darker than Northern. Could that be Tropical?
