Day before yesterday, I had 45 White-crowned Sparrow at the feeders at once during one count, and another four in the waterfall. Pretty typical.
Yesterday: One.
Today? Bupkiss.
Seems really off-putting not to hear their familiar chatter as constant background. The House Finches are having a field day now that those aggressive Sparrow are gone!
Those of you betwixt me and Canada - put some extra seed out for my White-crowned, would you please? They're heading your way en masse, and I expect to get them back in good condition this coming October!

Yeah, we actually got to see the GC's molt into breeding plumage this year - I hadn't in years past.
I didn't really take advantage of it as you did, and I'm sure I'll be kicking myself later.

Hey and what about my white-throated?!?! Even thought I will be in CA when they return I want them well fed. I think I am going to leave a couple pounds of bird seed and a bird feeder to give the new people a hint to feed them!
