Am I right that ravens are not residents or rare visitors at best to Virginia? The ebird reports show a few, but I think they could also be mis-identifications? Curious if any of you have seen ravens here and whether I'm right or absolutely wrong. Thanks.
Ravens are scarce to rare in Virginia?

Most all of the range maps show the range extending down the Appalachians to the TN/GA border, so if you are in the western mountains of VA ravens are certainly possible.

Ah, Richmond here, I guess I wasn't looking to the West. I also guess I don't have to worry about telling crows from ravens here. heh. A shame, I wanted to go in pursuit of them after reading up a bit on them. Brilliant birds.

They've been expanding their rainge, also. Baltimore County in Maryland has had some recent sightings, I know.

I've seen them on several occasions over in Shenandoah National Park (4 last time I hiked the Old Rag Trail in winter). They tend to be rare visitors anywhere outside of the mountains, in my experience.

Please, come here and take them back with you! Way too many here, and they have a detrimental effect on all the other birds.
