My husband was trying to get a picture of a Mejiro bathing in a puddle by our car but it flitted away. There were also mynas and pigeons there but he managed to get an accidental shot of this bird instead. I never saw it as it was on his side of the car but only saw the picture once we got home. Looks a lot like an Eastern towhee but that would make no sense at all! Any ideas??

It's not a towhee, but a White-rumped Shama, an introduced species on Hawaii.

Welcome to Whatbird.

I thought the tail looked awful long for a towhee. Something else about it was just "off", too.

Cool looking bird.

It does look very similar to a towhee, but it looks more like a shama.
