I've been unable to find in my bird books the identity of this bird.
Can anyone help out? It was shot in my backyard 53 miles north of Houston Texas on the morning of October 2, 2011.

Unfortunately the best field marks are from the front, but by range it should be Indigo Bunting. However unlikely, Lazuli could be possible in that area.

Also, the wingbars are not 100% reliable, but looks faint enough to point to Indigo Bunting female . But I wouldn't call it 100% without a photo taken of the front side.

I tried a couple of days ago to post followup pix but the site appeared down. These might help.

This shows how prominant the bue is so most folks seem to agree it is not a female Indigo but maybe a fist year male???
