The last time (before today) I used iBird Pro was a few weeks ago. On startup it refused to do anything until it downloaded a new database. That took longer than the 5 minutes mentioned, but it worked and the application was okay after the wait. I did have to synchronize all the birds from scratch.
Today I started the app again, and it wanted to download the entire database again. All I wanted to do was to search for a new bird we saw outside. I didn't need or want the new database at that time. Also, the app now wants me to re-synchronize all the birds again. Surely this isn't something I should have to do often.
Two questions:
1) Have there really been two full database replacements in the last few weeks, or is this a bug?
2) How can I defer these updates until AFTER I have used the app? When I turn it on I want to use it!
Thanks,
Steve
Oh - this is on a Kindle Fire.

This is a bug Steve. We have a new version of iBird for Android about to go into the Kindle and Google store that completely overhauls the Download Manager. Here is what will be in the new version:
New Features: Overhauled Database Manager. No more bird by bird installer or selection of what birds to download. Now both app and database can be updated independently. New Download Manager provides information about download progress: shows progress bar, percent completely, file count, file names being downloaded, and bandwidth (number of Kilobytes per second). Can handle public WiFi even if bandwidth is reduced. Prevents downloading over cellular network and which prevents excessive billing of user's data plan.
Database Update: Added new species illustrations: Barred Owl, Black-throated Green Warbler, Chipping Sparrow, Common Yellowthroat, Le Conte's Sparrow, Little Bunting, Ovenbird, Yellow-breasted Bunting.
Fixed bugs: Upon returning to modify a previous attribute the search results would be wrong. Search would not remember previous search attribute.
