I have recorded a bird call from the early morning in Sonoma county. I can email or text it to anyone who thinks they can Id it. It was very loud and there were many of them In field like conditions. I have never heard It before.

Welcome to Whatbird! You may have already had this bird identified by this point, but if not, would you be able to give a link to the recording or attach it to this thread? That way you can have multiple sets of ears listening to it and more opinions.

Agree with limpkin. It would be a hassle to have to email it to everyone who wants to hear it.

I agree, and I am interested to hear it since we live in similar environments just south of you.

I also live in Sonoma County and have over the past few months heard an extremely loud bird. I have owned parrots and this bird may be louder than a parrot. I actually thought it could be a Mynah bird. I hear it at dusk and dawn. It sound like it has a call, not a song. It is so loud, it scares my golden retrievers. I am really positive this is not your run of the mill bird, but I have not seen it.

I contacted the local Parrot Club to see if someone was missing a parrot...and nothing.

I am wondering if the bird this person is describing is the same bird I am hearing.

I have tried recording it's call on my phone without success.

Any ideas?

Try Great-tailed Grackle. The first time I heard them calling from a tree on the local Walmart parking lot (before I started birding) I had to find out what was making the call because I thought it was a flock of parrots.

New Year's Resolutions:
Get my lifelist to 300 (at the time of the original writing-293, currently-294)
Finally get Mountain Quail and Vesper Sparrow
Top my previous single year best (2011-253) I'm at 210 as of 6/11.

I tried the Great-tailed Grackle. Not it. But, thank you. The bird in our yard seems louder....like it rattles you if you are close to where it is calling.

The loudness is just right. What I am confused about is that I thought this bird was in the trees, moving from yard to yard. Our neighborhood has 6 ft fenced 1/4 acre lots. How is this peacock getting around? I thought they couldn't fly.

They can fly. Often roost in trees.

Well, I guess that settles it...now I want to see that peacock! Frankly, I am a bit disappointed. I had visions of it being a rare species and the Audubon Society folk camping in my yard at dawn... :D
