Cape Cod. May 4

Got my first Hummingbird. Thought I could ID it, but im not sure. Maybe Black-chinned?

On Cape Cod it's unlikely to be anything other than a Ruby-Throated Hummingbird, and it looks good for one to me (small size compared to the feeder, white postocular spot, wings as long as tail, irridesent throat that often looks black, white chest below). I am a fairly new birder and not a hummer expert, so wait for another confirmation, but range is very helpful in this case!

They are lovely little guys, aren't they?

Yeah Ruby-throated Hummingbird.

I spend half the year in MA and half in TX and never saw a black-chin till I got to TX. I did feed a batch of rubies here (TX) for about 10 days and sent the males on their way. Glad to see they arrived safely as I will be there soon!

I had dozens of them for the fall migration south (to the lower elevations they prefer) and at least one female that stayed around until February, but I never saw any on the return trip.
