I'm on a family trip to see relatives in Arkansas and hope to get 5 to 10 lifers. (from FL) Here is what I hope is my first taken in Prattville, Alb. (White-breasted Nuthatch)

Much nicer -- this is a Pygmy Nuthatch (Alb. would be Alberta, right?)

Actually, since they are driving from Florida to Arkansas, I believe that stands for Alabama.

EDIT: And looking at the range, then my guess is this is a brown-headed nuthatch.

Yes, it is Alabama, sorry. Wow, that would make this bird quite out of it's range. I can see now how the dark crown reaches down to the eyes. Do I have another confirming a Pygmy?

For the white-breasted, look for one with the white extending up past the eye, and the overall color being more white/gray/black.

Yes, Brown-headed. I was basing my ID on my misreading of your location.
