This bird looked sick to me. He flew away about 5 ft. away from me and I took more pics. I went back outside and saw him sitting on top of some crane leads. Is he just tired or what?
Oh! And what is he?

This is a Common Nighthawk - they frequently prefer to spend the day asleep.

Looks like a Common Nighthawk to me, but I have little experience with the family so wait for confirmation. As toyour other question, it is probably not sick. They are nocturnal and roost during the day. Often roosting in the open, relying on their camoflage to keep them hidden.

Yep. I lifer for me. He didn't seem to be afraid of me. I got within 4 or 5 feet from him.

From Pete Dunne's Essential Field Guide Companion "By day, perches lengthwise along tree limbs, or atop fenceposts, open ground and rooftops". Of course the only one I've ever seen was in flight in the hills east of Mono Lake so they may spend less time in the open than this would lead one to believe. But I have occasionally heard of them being seen roosting roads and on gravel parking lots.

I have seen them roosting on powerlines. It is neat to see them sitting parallel to the line instead of perpendicular like most birds.

I think they don't move much because they don't always realize they aren't camouflaged. Like when my black cat crouched under the bird feeder, waiting....on a snowy day!
