Needed some help with confirmations.

1) Black-bellied Whistling Duck (Saw on vacation last week in Florida. Was pretty excited to find this because it's so localized.)

2) Long-billed Curlew (Saw tonight driving in central CO).

3) Lesser Scaup??? (Saw on vacation last week in Florida.)

4) Red-headed Woodpecker (Saw tonight driving in central CO.)

5) Unknown and scratching my head on this one.

Sorry for any blurry photos. Camera doesn't have quite the long-range zoom needed for great looking birding photos.

Thanks for any confirmations or corrections. = )

I agree. This is a very rare bird!

I am guessing that the Tufted Duck is in captivity if it was seen at the same time as the BB Whistling Ducks, because you can see fencing in the background on that picture. Hopefully I am wrong, though.

I'm pretty sure those BB Whistling Ducks are in captivity, at least one has a band on. Hopefully you really do have that Tufted Duck! That would be an over-the-top fantastic find!

The more the storm, the more their strength.

Ebird has no records for Tufted Duck in Florida so I'd be willing to bet this is a captive.

New Year's Resolutions:
Get my lifelist to 300 (at the time of the original writing-293, currently-294)
Finally get Mountain Quail and Vesper Sparrow
Top my previous single year best (2011-253) I'm at 210 as of 6/11.

Latest Lifer(s):Cassin's Kingbird, Basalt Campgrounds, San Luis Reservoir SRA, Merced County, CA, 6/3/13; Harris's Sparrow, Oka Ponds, Campbell, CA, 1/1/13

Favorite Recent Bird(s):Pileated Woodpecker, North Grove Trail, Calaveras Big Trees State Park, Calaveras County, CA 6/8/13; Cassin's Kingbird (Lifer), Varied Thrush, Basalt Campgrounds, San Luis Reservoir SRA, Merced County, CA; Lesser Nighthawk, Santa Fe Grade Rd., Merced County, CA, 6/3/13; Yellow-breasted Chat, Knights Ferry Rec Area, Knights Ferry, CA; 5/20/13; Blue-winged Teal (Pair), Peregrine Falcon, Sanderling (3),Franklin's Gull (9), Modesto Wastewater Treatment Facility, Modesto, CA, 5/12/13; MacGillivray's Warber, Adair Rd., Modesto, CA, 5/5/13; Long-eared Owl, Mercy Hot Springs, Fresno County, CA

I've only traveled to Florida on a couple of occasions. I posted the photos of the BB Whistling and the Tufted only to help my wife and I learn what we saw. THe BB Whistling Duck was a captive for sure, and I'm not counting it on my life list. What I now know as a Tufted Duck was also relatively close by but I couldn't see any bands. I'm sure it was captive now after help with identifying it and haven't counted it on life list.

Thanks for all your help!

Loggerhead Shrike - Love those birds! A bander's worst nightmare, unfortunately.
