We saw this bird today while out for a walk in the Navan, Ontario area and thought it was some kind of sandpiper but have been unable to find a similar picture on the internet of a sandpiper with rings around the neck like this nesting bird. We would be very interested in finding out exactly what kind of bird this is? Thank you!

It's actually a plover, specifically a Killdeer. Nice find.

Thanks to everyone who responded. She didn't play wounded but did get up and try puffing herself up a bit and then made a show of leading us away from the nest the 1st time we discovered her. The second time we passed she simply sat on the eggs (3 or 4) and calmly watched us. Very nice bird!
