Female merganser - either hooded or red-breasted, I believe. I'll have to look it up and see if I can pinpoint it.

Agree with female Merganser. Still looking to see if I can tell which. . .

I'm not seeing merganser here; mergansers have white wing patches and the neck looks too thick here. I'd say a juvenile Cormorant. Where was this photo taken?

Agree with Cormorant, based on body and wing shape. Probably a juvenile, given the apparent light brown coloring, but it could be the lighting of the photo.

The wings and back in color and shape say Great Blue Heron but everything else seems off.

This looks like a DC Cormorant in weird light.

If you look at the neck, it appears to be crooked to the left a bit -- which is typical of DC Cormorant (and a few of our other cormorants).

We saw a million cormorants in flight on our recent trip, and I gotta agree with cormorant here.
