I am still unable to attach the photo after approx 30 attempts, so here goes. This little brown bird (distinctive eye line) was found singing his heart out at a wetlands and wildlife centre in the South of England approx 14 days ago. The habitat was mixed to include woodland, reed beds, ponds etc. I had apparently spotted a Dunnock nearby, as well as Blue Tits, Reed Buntings etc but I'd love to know what this one is
Thanks,

I know the next thing to nothing about English birds, but what you're describing sounds to me like one of the Phylloscopid or Sylviid warblers, or possibly a Wren.

Thank you for trying to help sans photo! Not a chiff-chaff, but I wish it was, I love them! I think it was more wren-like but the angle of the photos (from the back, with turned head) shows me the face and eye really well but the back confuses me. Legs are black.

I also just tried uploading pics to my gallery and I cannot do that either :( next up, a reed dweller to ask you about!

Thanks again,

Looks like a Sedge Warbler to me, though it's hard to tell with a photo of that size. The pale edging on the tertials rules out many of the other Old World Warblers that are in range for you, and the strong supercilium rules out even more, like the Grasshopper Warbler.

Thanks Limpkin, I think you are right- in my mind I thought this was a warbler crossed with the face of a carolina wren. The bird was tiny but most definitely singing its heart out like a warbler (and in the rain!) Love British birds that continue singing their hearts out in the rain.

Either way, most definitely a life bird and wonderful find. I wish I'd been as interested in birding when I grew up there......

Haha, I suppose you have no choice when it never stops raining. ;)

Same thing happened to me, actually, eheh. :( I sympathize.

I'd wait for a second opinion before calling it, because I'm not 100% sure, but if it gets confirmed, congratulations on the lifer!

Very cute and very true! Oh, I have missed soooo many birds..... but lots of excuses to get back and enjoy them with adult eyes and sensibilities.

I am taking it, you and Ryan thanks to you too). Score and another beauty for me.
