Took this today just outside of Wichita Falls, TX. We have several Bullock's around and also Baltimore Orioles but this is the first of one with no black on the top of the head. Also the black on the neck is quite narrow and only goes to the eye and not beyond. No orange medium coverts. Range wise 1st year Orchard would work and matches most items. Reference OK IDs thread ... very similar bird.

I think its a 1st year Male Bullock's, although its eye-line looks a bit short.

As I was reviewing Sibley's the streak-backed look very similar but the beak is off. Should be straighter and black tipped on bottom mandible. It seems to miss one of the markings on them all.

While we are on Orioles. Here is a female I took a bit later. She was hanging out with a Bullock's and her markings seem to match. What say y'all?

Yeah, I'd be comfortable calling that a female Bullock's.

No first year male Orchard has ever been that orange, lol. The second is for sure a female Bullock's.

Could it be the white balance of the photo, though? The sky looks a bit on the red side.

I'm just playing the skeptical card for Altamira, because that would be a VERY good bird for that area. Wichita Falls is almost in Oklahoma.

i only get the bullocks orioles here in southwest colorado. i have 3 to 4 pairs nest each spring here. i just went back thru 6 years of oriole photos and a found several young male bullocks that were similar to the post. I'm far from any kind of expert but i would have to vote for a immature male bullocks and the second a female bullocks

It looks kinda like a winter male Hooded Oriole, but that would be way out of range. The beak is droopy like the Hooded, and the markings make more sense. For the Bullocks', it would obviously be missing the black hood and longer eyeline. The wing bars also look a little too faded, but I think that's just me.

Good timber does not grow with ease:

The stronger wind, the stronger trees.

The further sky, the greater length,

The more the storm, the more their strength.

Hmm, to me, all of the birds in this thread look perfectly fine for Bullock's Orioles. I was surprised to see the contention.

Whoops, I looked further and the first spring Bullock's Oriole looks like this. Lol, now I feel stupid.
