Taken in Madera Canyon (south of Tucson AZ) in May 2011, definitely a bird, about the size of a Mexican Jay, that's all I can say about it. Any guesses?

There's too much white in the tail for Spotted Towhee. Do you have any other pics? If so please post, even if they are only from a slightly different agle.

Sorry, only got this one shot, just got a quick glance and it was gone. It was up in the canyon if that is any help (above the Madera Canyon campground).

After taking a look at the photo again, I can tell it was flying straight up, feet & tail down, and both wings straight up. Here's a view from a little farther back:

Any chance it was an Aztec Thrush (only thing I could find with similar color pattern)?

A little out of range for SB Forktail (I did get a Slaty-back Gull not too long ago), and penguins are only found in the Southern Hemisphere (or Sea World). At least Aztec Thrush have been found in Madera Canyon (found that out while researching SB Forktails), but Aztec Thrush photos don't match that well. Maybe it's a pigeon!?

Slaty-backed Forktail would be a better match. :P

I'm thinking this is a Eurasian Collared Dove. Check out the tail (white sides) and wing position.

It's a northern mockingbird.

I think we have a winner! Didn't know they ranged that far south, I see them all the time up here in NY! Don't know why I didn't match up the color pattern before!

This picture made me laugh. What a strange pose to catch on your camera. It looks like my 6 year old nephew jumping into the swimming pool. CANNONBALL!

They're very acrobatic birds. Kind of reminds me of the crows at Canyon De Chelly. There's a place near Spider Rock where the updrafts from the canyon allow the crows to practically float. They flip over and ride the updrafts on their backs. It is amazing to watch. I've been there several times and witnessed the same thing. Birds do crazy things.
