Oooh, lots of fun. Unfortunately too tired to figure out right now. Please don't post what they are on your flickr site? So I can have fun figuring them out in the morning? After Liam and the others have id'd them.
My "best" lifers; Golden Eagle and Crested Mynah.

New birds 2013; Red Flanked Bluetail (Queen's Park, New Westminster Jan 15, 2013), Gyrfalcon (Hastings Park/Viterra building near Second Narrows, Jan 26, 2013), Brambling (Laurel/17th Feb 5th/2013), Red-naped Sapsucker (west side of Fraserview golf course, in lane by 7878 Vivian, Apr 5/2013). Sora (pond at Colony Farm April 8/13).



New birds 2012; Black throated gray warbler, Cassin's vireo, (Hammond's Flycatcher,Chipping Sparrow were id'd at bird banding station), Vaux Swift, Cliff Swallow, Dowitcher, Merlin, Peregrine, Eastern Kingbird, Spotted Sandpiper, YHBB, Caspian Tern, Purple Martin, Warbling Vireo, Western Tanager.

I think I have these in the right order. By the way, is it safe to assume you're out by the west coast?
  • Swainson's Thrush
  • Ditto
  • Female American Redstart
  • Yellow Warbler
  • Ditto
  • Greater Scaup
  • Female Blackpoll Warbler
  • Solitary Sandpiper
  • Townsend's X Hermit Warbler
  • Ditto
  • Ditto
  • Western (?) Wood-Pewee
  • Solitary Sandpiper
  • Ditto
  • Flycatcher, most likely another Pewee, but the tail seems a bit narrow.

Why isn't this bird a Black-throated Green Warbler? Neither Hermit nor Townsend's are in range for central Alberta, and Black-throated Green is, and I can't see anything that looks wrong for Black-throated Green.

The face pattern isn't right for Black-throated Green, (much too dark on the auricular patch, eye-stripe, and crown). On the other hand, with the location data, I'd be thinking of Black-throated Green X Townsend's, instead. The only reference in Dunn and Garrett to that combo was to a bird that was identical to Black-throated Green, but was discovered with genetic analysis.

The locals around here called it a black throated green. Could I also possibly get confirmations on some of the other ID's I got.
