All birds were viewed 5/27/12 in Gilbert, AZ (Phoenix Metro Area), at the Gilbert Riparian Preserve

The first is a bird that makes me think a thrush of some kind, but I can't quite make it match up. The link below is to a video file that has the bird's call (along with some grackles). Sorry if the photo is oddly sized. I was getting errors when I tried to upload and so I used photobucket

Really? Wow that comes as a surprise. I thought I knew my grackles, lol. The call was not one I recognized and It looks like she has stripes on her face and neck, or is that just a trick of the light?

Sorry I'm posting the other birds now. I had to wait for the restriction to be lifted. :)

1. Is this a Verdin? It looks like one to me, but I wasn't sure enough to call it.

2, 3. I also saw some kind of flycatcher. This bird definitely had a crest, even if it doesn't show up in the pictures well.

4. Brewer's Sparrows, perhaps? The beak looks almost finchy though.

5. Which female hummer? Rufous?

6, 7. (I have two more of these if you think it would be helpful). Rough-Winged Swallows? Someone was calling them Swifts, but it didn't make sense to me, for our area. There was at least one parent and two young that I saw.

4. How about Rufous-crowned?
5. Anna's?
6/7. I'd guess Rough-winged.

The Chestnut-sided warbler would be highly unusual for my area

The Wood Pewee sounds about right. I'm not so sure on the sparrow though. From what I can see, it has a sizable light area around the eyes oulined by a darker line. Whereas the rufous-crowned doesn't seem to have that largish light area around the eyes

I'll steer clear of most of them, but I agree with Verdin for 1, and Rough-winged looks good to me for 6/7.

I'm sorry that I was not aware that this Whatbirder was in my territory, so I might have been available to help.

Gilbert Water Ranch... is ME... and a lot of Central Az. Birding.

Well I'm sure you could still help. :) Would you like to offer an opinion on any of them?

1. Odd lighting, but I'd also say Verdin
2/3. Western Wood-Pewee
4. I'll pass on the sparrows
5. Don't see anything to suggest something other than the default Anna's Hummingbird
6/7. Northern Rough-winged Swallow
