We wandered into his studio/gallery right as he was painting the very last page of a new guidebook that he's been working on for fourteen years. The last bird is the American Goldfinch; as it happened, there were a pair of them outside on his patio right at the time we were there, allowing me to finally add that species to my photo list.

The guy has a list by his door, which is longer than my whole lifetime list is, of species he's observed right from that one room.

He's working on a new guidebook for the Sierras, in collaboration with Sibley.
