We saw 40 or so different kinds of birds today on our three day trip to Malheur NWR - I have others to ID but I'm 99 % sure this is my elusive tri-colored bb. The picture is terrible - that's what I get for taking pictures without my glasses. I'm blind as a bat.

The bill and wings aren't so easy to see in this photo, but the wingbar is awfully white!

It does look white, but that can be an artifact from the picture, and some RWBB can look awfully pale as well. I'd be hesitant to ID this as a Tricolored, especially as a lifer. There are no eBird records of Tricolored from this location.
Latest lifers: Nelson's Sparrow, Upland Sandpiper, Clay-colored Sparrow, Cerulean Warbler, Bobolink, Henslow's Sparrow, Ruffed Grouse, Philadelphia Vireo, Kirtland's Warbler, Prothonotary Warbler, American Woodcock, Monk Parakeet, Field Sparrow, Blue-headed Vireo, Black-billed Cuckoo, Veery

ABA Year list: 358

Trip reports: Hawaii 2/2013, Florida 9-10/2012, Monterey 8/2012, Salton Sea 7/2012, SE AZ 6/2012, Chicago 5/2012, Arizona 3/12, Arizona 12/11, Chicago 9/2011, Monterey 8/11, Arizona 12/10

I agree with the fact that the yellow on many RWBBs looks white.

We are going out again this morning. I hope to get better pics today - there are black birds everyplace so I don't think I'll have too much trouble. Thanks for your help!!

Take a listen to the call of a Tricolored, that may be your best clue to identification.

Try to get a good side shot of a male, or female. I'm familiar with both species, and can't say you have a Tri-colored here, based on this pic. And, like Guy said, listen for the squalling "cat."
